Paseo del Volcan Extension
NOTICE: Enchanted Hills Bridge Concrete Pour
Related to the extension of Paseo del Volcan from Iris Road to U.S. 550, for several hours starting at 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2010, and September 10, 2010, concrete will be placed on the bridges on Enchanted Hills Boulevard.
This project will be an extension of Paseo del Volcan from Iris Boulevard to U.S. 550. The following is funding information and a schedule related to this project.
Funding Information
The city was previously awarded a grant from the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) via federal funds for this project. To utilize any portion of this grant, the city must provide a 20% match.
On March 5, 2009, the Mid-Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) awarded the city $14 million of its American Recovery and Reinvestment funding for this project.
On July 15, 2009, bids were opened for this project with Mountain States Constructors receiving approval to construct this extension for approximately $16.54 million.
The funding for the costs related to this project will come from the MRCOG money, with the remaining need coming from the previously awarded NMDOT grant. The match requirement to use the NMDOT grant will come from a general obligation road improvement bond that was passed by voters on March 10, 2009.
Construction on this extension began in August 2009 and will last until approximately February 2011.
Existing Roadway
3.9 miles of Paseo del Volcan is already in place and is located between Unser and Iris Boulevards. It provides access to Rio Rancho City Hall, the Santa Ana Star Center, forthcoming V. Sue Cleveland High School, and future projects in the
City Center area.
