Summer Reading Program for Adults 
Entry Submission Period: June 1 to August 14
Why should kids have all the fun? It's Summer Reading Program time again and the library offers a program for adults as well as children! Check out all the great books, videos, audiobooks and more at the library and "Water Your Mind!" Earn a chance to win the "Booklovers Bag," chock full of fun stuff any reader would love!

The theme for this year's nationwide Summer Reading Program is water, and the theme for the adult program is "Water Your Mind." Books videos, audiobooks and events about water and gardening accompany the program and include two talks by award-winning gardening expert Rudy Benavidez, a concert by Holy Water and Whiskey, and a gourd craft program.

To participate, just read or listen to books and submit entry forms until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 14. Turn in your enries at either Rio Rancho library to earn a chance to win a "Booklovers Bag." There will be a drawing on Thursday, August 19 (time to be announced) at Loma Colorado Main Library. You need not be present to win. Submit as many entry forms as you want to, but you can win only one "Booklovers Bag." You must be 18 years or older to participate. 

Writing and Marketing Short Fiction

Everyone has stories they would like to tell. Come to this presentation, and learn from author David J. Corwell about how to write and then sell yours! Corwell was a 2007 New Mexico Book Awards Finalist for Best Anthology and Best Science Fiction Book.

The Desert Skies Band, Live and in Concert!
July 13 at 6:30 p.m.
Esther Bone Memorial Library

The Desert Skies family band will perform an entertaining evening of Americana, Bluegrass, Newgrass, Gospel and Celtic music. They feature champion fiddlers, guitar music and wonderful vocal harmonies. No tickets needed. Just come and enjoy the music in our program room. 

Karaoke Night!

Library Karaoke Night returns, hosted by Vaun and Rob! Join us for an expanded selection of music to choose from or bring your own Karaoke CD's. Come to sing or just listen to some of Rio Rancho's best voices. If you haven't been to a Karaoke night at Esther Bone before make this night your first time. We guarantee a good time for all. No prior registration required. Sign-up at the door to sing.


Bookworms, Adult Book Club

Norio Hayakawa, Live and In Concert!

Are you ready for some unusual music?  Norio performs a blend of ambient and western music for a unique sound.  He is a one man band who will be sure to entertain and expand your musical horizons.  This is a free concert which does not require tickets. 

Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary

The wolf sanctuary will be visiting and bringing along a special friend, a live wolf!  The mission of this organization is to educate the public, to rescue abused and abandoned captive-bred wolves and wolf-dogs and to provide their wolf residents with permanent, life-time sanctuary.  No prior registration required to attend.

Hiking the Sandia Mountains

Saturday, August 21, at 10:00 a.m.

Authors Bob Julyan, Michael Coltrin and Mike Smith will visit the library and share their knowledge of the Sandia Mountains: the hiking, the geology, & the towns.  Learn how to take advantage of living so close to a beautiful natural resource.  Books will be available for purchase following the presentation.

Mystic Fusion Belly Dance Troupe

Belly dancing at the Library!  The tribe will offer sword, veil and, dancing on wine glasses.  From traditional Cabaret to American Tribal style belly dancing, with a twist of modern fusion, the audience will be encouraged to join in.  Please join us for a wonderful evening of fun and shake, rattle and roll!  This is a free event, no registration required.
