The city of Rio Rancho’s Keep Rio Rancho Beautiful Division (KRRB) and New Mexico Clean & Beautiful invite residents to take part in the 2014 Toss No Mas community cleanup and beautification event on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The event gives people an opportunity to work together with one goal in mind - keep New Mexico clean and beautiful. Individuals, schools, nonprofit organizations, and sports teams are encouraged to take part in this event and compete with other communities throughout New Mexico in clearing litter and debris from roadways, parks, and bike paths.

Volunteers will be given the option to take part in one of the following:
  • Litter removal and open space cleanup (illegal dump site cleanup at designated sites)
  • School beautification and cleanup
  • Park beautification at one of the following: Cabezon Park, 2307 Cabezon Blvd., or Los Milagros Park, 400 Colorado Mountain Road - park work will include constructing tree wells, weed eradication, litter removal, tree planting (Cabezon only), and mulch spreading

All volunteers who participate in the event will receive trash bags, gloves, goody bags, and will be eligible to participate in a prize drawing following the cleanup.  The first 300 volunteers to register will receive an event t-shirt. To register for the event, please call (505) 896-8389 or e-mail KRRB Coordinator Koryn Lowry at klowry@ci.rio-rancho.nm.us by Monday, Sept. 8.

Also on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8 a.m. to noon, residents of Rio Rancho can dispose of waste for free at the Waste Management landfill located in Rio Rancho, 1132 33rd St. (accessible from Northern Boulevard). Proof of city residency, such as a water/wastewater utility statement and photo identification, will be required to utilize the free access.   Refrigerators with Freon (must have certificate if Freon was removed), liquids, paints, batteries, hazardous materials, explosives, and medical and radioactive wastes will not be accepted.

Toss No Mas is sponsored by New Mexico Clean & Beautiful, a program of the New Mexico Tourism Department.
