Mayor's Sunday is Funday

The 10th Annual Mayor’s Sunday is Funday is taking place on Aug. 16 from noon to 4 p.m. at Haynes Park, 2006 Grande Blvd., across from Intel on N.M. 528. Admission is $1 for those ages 12 and older, and free parking with shuttle service will be available at the Intel parking lot off Westside Blvd.

The theme for the event is ‘Bringing Our Community Together.’ At this fun family style picnic, you’ll find many exciting events and musical entertainment along with inexpensive food choices. The event will feature a mechanical bull, games and activities for kids, a treasure hunt with prizes, and a variety of vendor booths. During the event you can also take a dip in the Haynes public pool for free (noon to 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., or 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. session, and participate in a silent auction inside the Haynes Community Center.

Those interested in being an event sponsor, booth vendor to market or sell family or youth-oriented products, contribute to the silent auction, or to register a team to compete against the Mayor in a Knockerball tournament should contact Dave Heil with the Rio Rancho Kiwanis Club at (505) 228-7189/ or Tim Sheahan with the Boys and Girls Clubs at (505) 881-0777 for registration and fee information. Sunday is Funday is sponsored and coordinated by the Rio Rancho Kiwanis Club, City of Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, Rio Rancho Boys and Girls Club, and the City of Vision Civitans. Sunday is Funday was created by Tony Popper, a former Rio Rancho City Councilor, Rio Rancho Kiwanis President, and community volunteer.

Proceeds, after paying event expenses, benefit youth programs in Rio Rancho such as scholarships for city parks and recreation programs, the Rio Rancho Boys and Girls Club, Sandoval County Juvenile Justice Program, and the Boy Scouts.
