A number of events will take place throughout Rio Rancho to celebrate this year’s Fourth of July holiday and weekend.
12th Annual Pork & Brew BBQ State Championship
The 12th Annual Pork & Brew State BBQ Championship will be held both inside and outside of the Santa Ana Star Center on July 3 and 4 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and July 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event will include local, regional, and national participants competing and selling food items. In addition to world-class barbeque, the event will also feature arts and crafts vendors, popular beers including local micro-brews, live music, and pig races and a petting zoo courtesy of the Galloping Grace Youth Ranch.
The per day admission prices for the event are $6 for general admission; free for ages 3 and under; $4 for ages 4 to 12; and $4 for those ages 65 and older. The Pork & Brew is hosted by the Rio Rancho Convention and Visitors Bureau and presented by the Santa Ana Star Casino, and is a sanctioned Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) event - one of the top events on the society calendar. With more than 20,000 in attendance last year, Pork & Brew has become one of the largest events in New Mexico. Winners may go on to participate at the American Royal event in Kansas City, Mo.
Parade with Bike-Decorating Contest and Ceremony
On July 4, an Independence Day parade will kick off at 10 a.m. and head east from Country Club Drive down Southern Boulevard and end on Pinetree Road near the Esther Bone Memorial Library and the Rio Rancho Veterans Monument Park.
7th Annual Corbin Hayes Flag Football Tournament The tournament will take place starting at 9 a.m. on July 4 at the Rio Rancho High School Football Stadium, 301 Loma Colorado Blvd.
The Loma Colorado Park, located on Loma Colorado Boulevard, will serve as the best venue to enjoy one of New Mexico’s biggest and best fireworks shows on July 4 at approximately 9 p.m. There is no admission fee to attend the show.Spectators are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets. Parking will be available at surrounding parking lots for a $5 fee, which benefits the Rio Rancho and Cleveland high school athletic booster clubs.
