Information pertaining to the re-opening date of the Meadowlark Senior Center will be posted on the city's Web site and the facility marquee sign.
The senior lunch program will continue to be offered by the Sandoval County Senior Program, Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. During June and July, lunch service will take place at Rio Rancho Elementary School, 4601 Pepe Ortiz Road. Beginning Aug. 4, 2014, lunch service will take place at the Sabana Grande Recreation Center, 4110 Sabana Grande Ave. Transportation to and from can be arranged by calling Valerie Quinones at (505) 362-2430, or the Sandoval County Senior Program Administrative Office at (505) 867-7535.
Paratransit service for seniors and those disabled operated by Rio Metro and based out of the senior center will continue to operate without interruption during the closure period. The existing parking lot will be demolished and reconstructed with new lighting, sidewalks, landscaping, and a shaded main entry area added. The renovation work will result in accessibility upgrades as well as improvements to the general safety and traffic flow for facility users. The construction work will cost $759,889.16 and is funded via monies appropriated by the New Mexico Legislature (Capital Outlay) and the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department.
Kitchen renovation work will consist of removing and replacing original (1985) flooring in need of repair, wall and plumbing improvements, and equipment replacement. The cost of this work is $87,989.54 and will be funded by monies from the New Mexico Legislature (Capital Outlay), New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department, and state bond proceeds.
The senior center is located at 4330 Meadowlark Lane and is operated by the Rio Rancho Senior Services Division, which is part of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.
