Open House & Costume Contest

Firefighters will have to make room at their station for ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses who will all be on hand to learn about fire prevention.

The Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue Department is hosting their 9th Annual Fire Station Open House and Halloween Costume Contest on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, from noon to 3 p.m. at the city's main station located at 2810 Southern Blvd. (Fire Station #1).

October has been designated as fire prevention month across the United States. At the open house, Rio Rancho firefighters will teach children how to be fire safe via informative and fun sessions. The department's safety trailer will give guests the opportunity to experience how to escape from a smoke-filled room.

For the department's Halloween costume contest for children, prize medals will be awarded to the top three contestants in each of the three age groups. The categories are: young children up to age three; four to six years old; and seven to 10 years old.

Light refreshments will also be provided.
