Traffic Update
This page contains information on lane restrictions that may be present during road construction in the City of Rio Rancho.  Information will be updated on this page as it becomes available. Motorists traveling within construction zones are urged to drive with caution and observe traffic control devices. Remember to always wear your seat belt and drive the speed limit.

Current Road Construction:


  • Grande Boulevard: Construction for the Grande Boulevard Project will be from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.  There will be various lane closures.

  • Idalia Road: Construction for the Idalia Road Project will be from 7:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, and weekends as needed.  Idalia Road will be closed from Iris Road to Camino Encantadas starting on November 19, 2015.  Residents can utilize Iris Road, Lincoln Avenue, Chayote Road, Campeche Road, and Pasilla Road for detours.  Access to the Judical Complex and Camino Encantadas via Idalia Road will be maintained at all times.  Please watch for trucks and construction workers in work zone areas.  Please also follow all construction signs and detours.
    • Construction is from November 16, 2015 - November 2016.
    • Notification: If the intersection of Campeche Road and Idalia Road is closed then the intersection of Chayote Road and Idalia Road will be open for local traffic to cross Idalia Road for North-South direction only.  If the intersection of Chayote Road and Idalia Road is closed then the intersection of Campeche Road and Idalia Road will be open for local traffic to cross Idalia Road for North-South direction only.
    • Notification to Residents: Please keep away from the construction zone.  There are several pieces of construction equipment running back and forth at the job site, and it is not safe to walk or bike along this area.

  • King Boulevard:  A street light was knocked down at King Boulevard and Shiloh Road, whose circut was tied directly into a PNM transformer.  This means that several lights along King Boulevard may be out until the circuit is repaired.  The City is working with PNM to expedite the repairs.  However, a schedule has not been set yet.  More information will come as soon as it is available.

  • Paseo Del Volcan and Broadmoor Boulevard: There will be utility work being performed by Franklin's Earthmoving Inc. at the intersection of Paseo Del Voclan (also known as NM 347) and Broadmoor Boulevard.  Work will be from 7:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m, Monday-Friday.
    • Construction is from May 16, 2016 - September 1, 2016.

  • Patching and Crack Sealing:  Work for the Patching and Crack Sealing Project will be from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.  The road(s) being worked on are as follows:

  • Southern Boulevard: There will be crack sealing and patch work on all four lanes of Southern Boulevard from Unser Boulevard to Sara Road.  Work will be from 9:00 a.m - 3:30 p.m, Monday-Friday.  There will be various lane closures for this maintenance.
    • Work is from June 12 - August 2016.

  • Water Booster Station at Tank 8:  Construction for the Water Booster Station at Tank 8 will be along Northern Boulevard from 9:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m, Monday-Friday.  There will be various lane closures to allow for the construction.

  • Water Service Line Replacement Phase 4: Work for the Water Service Line Replacement (WSLR) Project Phase IV will be from 7:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m, Monday - Friday.  There will be short periods of water service disruption during work hours.  All affected residents will be notified five to seven days prior to work commencing.  Please watch for all construction signs and detours.  The road(s) being worked on are as follows:
    • Aberdeen Drive SE (August 10 - August 31, 2016)
    • Visual of Road Closure PDF.
    • Notification: Residents on Ashkirk Loop, Ashkirk Place, Aberdeen Drive, Inverness Drive, Dundee Way, and Greenock Drive may be without water from the hours of 12:00 p.m - 5:00 p.m, August 1 - August 31, 2016 due to unforeseen circumstances of the existing service lines.  The lines do not have individual isolation valves on each service line, which means that the main line will need to be shut-off in order to replace the service lines with new copper service line.  See Shut-off Notice PDF.  See Affected Areas of Current Shut-off PDF, blue and red highlighted areas will have no water during specified hours during the specified schedule (see above).

    • Unser Boulevard - Westside Boulevard to Paseo del Volcan
    • Southern Boulevard - Lisbon Avenue to NM 528
    • Westside Boulevard - Unser Boulevard to NM 528
    • Sara Road - NM 528 to Southern Boulevard
    • NM 528 - Westside Boulevard to Southern Boulevard
    • Paseo del Volcan - Unser Boulevard to US 550
    • US 550 - Paseo del Volcan to I-25 (NMDOT Data)

  • This map is updated every 5 minutes.

  • Key:
    • Blue is fast (above the speed limit)
    • Green is normal (around the speed limit)
    • Yellow is below normal (below the speed limit)
    • Orange is slow (significantly below the speed limit)
    • Red is extremely slow (traffic is at a crawl)
