The Traffic Section has two primary areas of responsibility: Traffic Engineering and Traffic Operations and Maintenance.
Traffic Engineering: This section oversees evaluation of and improvements to traffic related infrastructure on City streets, including traffic signals, stop signs, speed limits, parking restrictions, traffic signing, crosswalks, traffic counts and studies and other traffic related items. This section is also a member of the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (Public Works, Police Department, Fire Department and Rio Rancho Public Schools Transportation Department).
Traffic Maintenance: This section is responsible for the maintenance of all traffic signals, school flashers, metered street lights, signs and traffic markings within the City of Rio Rancho. Striping and street signing on the Pat D’Arco Highway (NM 528) are the responsibility of the New Mexico Department of Transportation.
