Star Wars is taking over Rio Rancho’s Loma Colorado Main Library. This free all-day, all-ages event - with origins in a galaxy far, far away - has something for everyone to enjoy!
Those attending the event will be able to:
-View a giant display of Lego Star Wars
-Have their picture taken with members of the local 501st and Rebel legions
-Enjoy popcorn while watching an intergalactic movie that will be showing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
-Make Star Wars-themed origami
-Play Star Wars games
-Create Star Wars-themed crafts such as lightsabers for children
-Participate in an online Star Wars scavenger hunt (for ages 18 and older, instructions provided when scavenger hunt is picked up day of the event)
In addition, those attending the event in a Star Wars costume can participate in a costume contest with the chance to win prizes donated by Astro-Zombies, the #1 comic store in Albuquerque.The costume contest will be divided between different age categories (up to 12, 13 to 18, and

Auditions for the city of Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department’s annual Battle of the Bands competition will take place on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Sabana Grande Recreation Center.
Demo CDs will also be accepted, and must be received by the offices of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department located at Rio Rancho City Hall, 3200 Civic Center Circle, by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21.There is a $15 entrance fee for bands.
The Battle of the Bands competition will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Sabana Grande Recreation Center.Bands will compete for prizes in four different categories: Category 1 - Country Western; Category 2 - Pop, Jazz, and Rhythm and Blues; Category 3 – Christian Rock, Rock, and Heavy Metal; and Category 4 – Salsa and Latin.All ages are welcome to the March 8 competition, and the admission fee for the event is $4.
