  3. Inaugural Germaine Casey Invitational

    March 6, 8:00 AM - March 7, 6:00 PM @ Intel Corporation south parking lot

    On March 6th and 7th, the Rio Rancho Police Department will host the first-ever New Mexico Police Training and Competition. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Special Olympics of New Mexico. March 6th will serve as a practice day with the competition taking place on March 7th. Nearly 50 officers from around the state plan to participate in the competition. At least 9 Rio Rancho officers plan to compete. The competition is named after Rio Rancho Police Officer Germaine F. Casey who died while serving in the motorcade for then U.S. President George W. Bush in August 2007.

    Loma - The City of Rio Rancho’s Keep Rio Rancho Beautiful, Office of Water Conservation, and the Loma Colorado Main Library will be holding the annual Tree Seedling Giveaway. This year’s species include Austrian Pine, Gamble Oak, Lacebark Elm, & Buffalo Berry. Limit 3 per resident (2 prepackaged plus a choice of 1 other). Proof of Rio Rancho residency required. Seedlings will be available on a “first come, first served” basis. This event may be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

  42. Dylan and the Band: The Story of the Basement Tapes

    March 24, 6:30 PM @ Esther Bone Memorial Library

    In July of 1966, Bob Dylan had a motorcycle accident near his home in Woodstock, NY and withdrew from public life. His friends, later to be known as The Band, moved nearby to provide moral support and music camaraderie. The result came to be known as The Basement Tapes and, until recently was never available in its entirety. Musician Peter Chase will discuss.
