Traffic Update
This page contains information on lane restrictions that may be present during road construction in the City of Rio Rancho. Information will be updated on this page as it becomes available. Motorists traveling within construction zones are urged to drive with caution and observe traffic control devices. Remember to always wear your seat belt and drive the speed limit.

Current Road Construction:

  • Enchanted Hills Boulevard:  PNM will be cable testing in the Enchanted Hills area off of Enchanted Hills Boulevard.  There will be several lane closures present during the testing.  Please follow all construction signs and detours.

  • Nativitas Road:  Work will be going on at Nativitas Road between Hapsburg Road and Lincoln Avenue to extend the roadway.  The project will have two stages with lane closures.  The construction company is Franklin's Earthmoving.  Please follow any detours and watch for workers on the roadway during construction.
    • Total construction will be from August 19 - September 30, 2015.
    • Stage 1 will be from August 19 - August 25, 2015.
      • Nagoya Road will be closed at Nativitas Road (use Nacelle Road or Camino Alto Road as a detour).
      • Hapsburg Road will be closed at Nativitas Road (use Oersted Road as a detour).
    • Stage 2 will be from August 26 - September 30, 2015.
      • Nativitas Road will be completely closed (follow the detour route off of NM 528 at Calle Baack Road).
      • Other residents are urged to use NM 528 to get to Enchanted Hills Boulevard and Lincoln.

  • NM 528 Widening Project: Work is done by the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and may require roadway lane restrictions between 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday- Friday.
    • Final paving/striping will occur in September 2015.

Speed Map:
  • A real time speed data map has been created for the roads Unser Boulevard (from Westside Boulevard to Paseo del Volcan) and Southern Boulevard (from Lisbon Avenue to NM 528).
  • This map is updated every 5 minutes.
  • Key:
    • Blue is fast (above the speed limit)
    • Green is normal (around the speed limit)
    • Yellow is below normal (below the speed limit)
    • Orange is slow (significantly below the speed limit)
    • Red is extremely slow (traffic is at a crawl)
