Traffic Update
This page contains information on lane restrictions that may be present during road construction in the City of Rio Rancho.Information will be updated on this page as it becomes available. Motorists traveling within construction zones are urged to drive with caution and observe traffic control devices. Remember to always wear your seat belt and drive the speed limit.

Current Road Construction:

  • Fire Hydrant Flushing/Unidirectional Flushing (UDF):  The City will be flushing the Fire Hydrants in the specified area in order to check and maintain the Fire Hydrants.
    • Enchanted Hills (October 26 - December 4, 2015)
      • Mira Vista Drive
      • Sabusco Drive
      • Coyote Drive

  • Idalia Road: Construction for the Idalia Road Project will be from 7:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, and weekends as needed.  Idalia Road will be closed from Iris Road to Camino Encantadas starting on November 19, 2015.  Residents can utilize Iris Road, Lincoln Avenue, Chayote Road, Campeche Road, and Pasilla Road for detours.  Access to the Judical Complex and Camino Encantadas via Idalia Road will be maintained at all times.  Please watch for trucks and construction workers in work zone areas.  Please also follow all construction signs and detours.
    • Construction is from November 16, 2015 - September 2016.
    • Notification: Intersection of Campeche Road at Idalia Road will be closed beginning November 30th, 2015.  The intersection of Chayote Road and Idalia Road will be kept open for local traffic only, in order for residents to cross Idalia Road going in the North-South direction only.

  • Lift Station 10: Construction for the Lift Station 10 Project will be 8:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.  Please follow all construction signs and detours.  Please also watch out for trucks and workers in the Pinehurst Road and Lost Tree Road area.
    • Construction is from September 14, 2015 - May 2016.

  • Southern Boulevard: The New Mexico Gas Company will be doing work on the gas line on Southern Boulevard from Trevino Road to Fire Station 1.  The work will require that the two westbound lanes be closed from 8:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m.  However, traffic heading westbound will be moved to the center median during that time.
    • Construction is from November 30 - December 3, 2015.

  • Westside Boulevard:  There will be construction on Westside Boulevard to do some pavement correction.  Work will be from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m, Monday-Friday.

Speed Map:
  • A real time speed data map has been created for the roads Unser Boulevard (from Westside Boulevard to Paseo del Volcan) and Southern Boulevard (from Lisbon Avenue to NM 528).
  • This map is updated every 5 minutes.
  • Key:
    • Blue is fast (above the speed limit)
    • Green is normal (around the speed limit)
    • Yellow is below normal (below the speed limit)
    • Orange is slow (significantly below the speed limit)
    • Red is extremely slow (traffic is at a crawl)
