    The Galloping Grace Youth Ranch’s Pumpkin Patch will run from Sept. 27 to Oct. 31, 2014. The hours of operation are Tuesday –Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; open Monday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and closing at 4 p.m. on Oct. 31.

    Esther - Anyone age 8 and above can sign up to work one on one with a professional artist from the Rio Rancho Art Association. We will paint outside, weather permitting, or move indoors if need be. All materials will be provided. Registration is required and starts September 9th.

  7. Bookworms Book Club

    Esther - This month the Bookworms will discuss The Garden of Evening Mists by Tan Twan Eng. It is the winner of the Man Asian Literary Prize. The narrator is retiring judge Teoh Yun Ling, who returns to the Cameron Highlands where she had been in a prisoner of war camp during World War II. With the help of a Japanese gardener, she honors her dead sister and makes peace with her past. This session is closed to new members, please see the Friday session.

  8. The Great Songwriters: 1955-63 with Peter Chase

    October 7, 6:30 PM @ Esther Bone Memorial Library

    Esther - Before Bob Dylan and the Beatles began writing their own songs, most pop songs were written, in the tradition of Tin Pan Alley, by professional songwriters for others to perform. This talk will highlight the contribution and talents of the great songwriters of the pre-Beatles period of rock/pop music: Leiber and Stoller, Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, Pomus and Shuman, Goffin and King, and others. The talk will also include video clips and songs by such artists as the Coasters, Dion and the Belmonts, the Drifters, and the Shirelles.

    Star Wars Reads Day is a national event celebrated on the second Saturday in October. Receive a free Star Wars book (while supplies last) and read to a costumed Star Wars character from the 501st Legion or Rebel Legion. Many other activities and giveaways all morning.   19. Interactive Educational Exhibit on New Mexico’s Natural Resources

    October 14, 6:30 PM @ Esther Bone Memorial Library

    Esther - The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) division of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will present an interactive multitouch, multiuser exhibit that educates New Mexicans about their services and our state’s natural resources. This exhibit provides extensive information on each New Mexico county, watershed, and USDA service center. Using emerging technology, an interactive application will be presented on a large-scale touch table through which residents can explore information about the natural resources in their area.

  32. Let’s Read Shakespeare! The Santa Fe Shakespeare Close Readers

    October 25, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Loma Colorado Main Library Auditorium

    Loma - A “close” reading of Shakespeare moves slowly and carefully, uncovering original meanings of words, keeping track of themes and motifs, making sure every line is understood and ambiguities are explored. After a brief presentation, we will read Shakespeare aloud in groups, each guided by a veteran “Shakespeare close reader.” Silent participants are perfectly welcome. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own copy of Shakespeare’s collected works.
